What do you think of when you think of a fun activity for the whole family? Have you considered nitro RC boats' races? These speedy little remote-controlled boats are a lot of fun to race (or watch as a spectator), which can make a fun family activity that's more than just a picnic in the park.
Not just for kids anymore
Although nitro RC boats look a lot like those toy kid racing nitro boats you see, they really are adult versions of a child's toy. The nitro RC boat is a radio controlled boat powered by nitro, the same fuel used by nitro-powered drag racers. It utilizes an internal combustion engine, just as the gas boat does, but it uses a special mixture of gasoline, nitro, and wax. These boats are pretty easy to handle once you know what you're doing, but they go very fast, faster than either electric powered or gas powered remote-controlled boats.
How about some racing?
Insofar as their suitability for a family activity, they are very fun to watch, although children shouldn't generally operate them.
They do, however, make an incredible spectator sport when you race them in front of an audience. As the operator, you may also become hooked on the venue of the nitro RC boat race, since these little boats can go up to 70 plus miles an hour. It's a rush that can't be beat, to both spectators and operators.
A special challenge
You may think you'll be old hat at controlling a nitro RC boat in a race if, for example, you've had a significant amount of time learning how to manage videogame controls. However, it's a very different situation indeed, because you have to handle this little boat live. You have to see where it is in the race, and you have to pay attention to the boats around it so that aren't any accidents. Even though these boats are small, they can be dangerous, so you have to be careful to operate them prudently.
Nitro fuel is nothing to play around with.
One of the things that can make nitro RC boats dangerous is the fact that they run under the power of nitro fuel. This extremely volatile, flammable, highly toxic fuel should be handled very, very carefully, so that fire or explosion does not occur. It burns very, very quickly and is very explosive, so must be handled with kid gloves at all times. Store the fuel safely, and take care when you fuel boats up or are otherwise handling or using it.
Of course, that's what makes it fun, too...
Nitro fuel is very dangerous when not handled properly, of course, but it's also what makes racing nitro RC boats so much fun. Because they can operate at such high speeds, and yet can be controlled so minutely, you can really challenge yourself to go boating without ever being on the water yourself. Truly, operating a nitro RC boat is an exercise in dexterity, speed and fun -- as long as you take care with a few elemental precautions.
